Jean-Marc Bosman believes that a lawsuit filed against Fifa that will be resolved shortly before next summer’s World Cup finals, could be as fundamental to the sport’s future as his court-room battle of 10 years ago.
This is hardly Bosman mark II…the Bosman case had far-reaching implications for clubs at all levels of professional football. Whatever the outcome of the case against FIFA, it’s unlikely the implications will be felt by League 2 teams in England, for example.
I do have some sympathy for clubs who have players returning from international duty injured and for those losing players mid-season for African Nations Cup but when you have a squad full of internationals then I feel the club is well aware of what happens during international tournaments.
Will the national associations really pay the players whilst they are on international duty? If so, does this mean that the clubs won’t pay the players in this situation?
Will be interesting to see how this develops.
